Keith Beavon is Professor of Human Geography and Head of the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. A graduate of the University of Cape Town he gained his Ph.D. at Wits where he was appointed Senior Lecturer in 1970. He has held lectureships at the University of Cape Town, Rhodes and Swansea. The author of two books and more than fifty research papers, his interest in hawking dates back to 1977 when he was appointed to the Chair at Wits.
