Resume

The purpose of this study, commissioned by the basic education team of the U.S. Agency for International Development Africa Bureau's Office of Sustainable Development (USAID/AFR/ SD), was to compile lessons learned from Life Skills programs in SSA by reviewing evaluation reports. However, since few such programs have been evaluated, a theoretical analysis was also made of a sample of curricula used in schools in French-speaking Africa. Overall, this study suggests that the concept of Life Skills education is still difficult to grasp in program documents, and the term "Life Skills" remains imprecise and even unclear to most actors.
